Acknowledgments

Many who came before me have done significant research of the current and former fire towers in New York State. Perhaps the one who has done the most significant amount of research is Forest Ranger, Captain Paul Hartmann, Retired. Paul has been exceedingly generous in sharing his knowledge of our New York fire towers and system as well as in sharing his photography, documents, and postcard collection. He developed a web site of New York fire towers and has very kindly donated it to the NYS Chapter of the FFLA as the basis for this web site. We cannot thank Paul enough for his generous gift and we sincerely hope that you enjoy his work here.

In addition the NYS Chapter has also been given some wonderful photographs, documents, and postcards by Mark Haughwout, the FFLA Northeastern Deputy Chair. Mark is a native of New York who as a young man developed a love for fire towers and continues to share that love with us. In my early years as a NYS FFLA member, I met Bob Eckler and Warren Johnsen, 2 men who wandered all over NYS in pursuit of their love of fire towers. Many photos were generously shared with me by these 2 gentlemen as well as some great FFLA work project time! Former Kane Mt Fire Tower Observer, Rick Miller has also generously shared photos, articles, and memories which you will see on this page.
